A tremendous variety of weapons — from small arms and artillery to mines and flamethrowers — were used by both the Allies and the Axis during the ground fighting in Europe, Africa, and the Pacific. Some weapons had changed little since World War I while others had evolved greatly. All were effective at destruction and killing people.
