The spans of the American and African continents are so vast that it is impossible to generalize about their specific religions. One thing they have in common is that they are both tribal faiths. Each tribe possessed — and in some cases still possesses — its spiritual ceremonies and beliefs. The spread of missionaries and the influx of Western thought did much to diminish the wisdom of these ancient peoples. Nevertheless, their influence on modern religious study continues.
