The word Tao signifies “path” or “way.” Taoism is a Chinese system of thought and until the twentieth century, one of the three major religions of China, along with Confucianism and Buddhism. In English, Tao is pronounced “dow.” The Tao is a natural force that makes the universe the way it is. It has also been referred to as “the way of heaven.”
