Christianity arose from Judaism and rapidly developed as a faith with a separate identity, based on the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, referred to as the Christ. There are many different denominations within Christianity. These have evolved over the years often because of disagreements about teachings or through different ways of worshiping. Most, however, agree on the basic tenets of the faith. The story of Jesus Christ's ministry and an early history of Christianity are contained in the New Testament of the Holy Bible.
