The Virgin Mary
The Virgin Mary is revered as the mother of God, and holds a unique devotional position in the Catholic Church. Catholics gave her the title Queen of Heaven. They believe that she rules over death in that capacity.
Based on the gospels of St. Matthew and St. Luke, Jesus Christ, who had no natural father, was conceived by Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit. Most Christian churches and Islam accept the virgin birth of Jesus.
Prayers to the Virgin Mary include the Ave Maria Prayer, which praises God and asks for intercession:
Hail Mary, full of grace!
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God.
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death.
