Be Proactive about Your Own Health

The best way to take care of your health is to be a well-rounded person. That means taking good care of your body. That is so simply said, but with all of the temptations around in life, it is not always easy advice to follow. The downward cycle is to work long hours, grab anything to fill you up, and skip exercise. Many Americans follow that pattern.

Making changes requires taking one step at a time. Start by taking breaks at work and going home promptly at the end of the day. Try to limit overtime when possible. Bring in a bagged lunch. If you do eat out, choose healthy foods over high-fat, sugary treats. Allow yourself to indulge every once in a while. Drink plenty of water, and get a full eight hours of sleep each night.

Fight tunnel vision. Being a vet or an animal trainer or a dog walker is great. Just remember, that is only one part of who you are. Develop other interests. Find a hobby, read a good book, or cook an elegant meal. The idea is to broaden your tastes. You will be a much more interesting person, and a better worker.

On the job, ask for help if you need it. People will respect you for it, and in time you will be able to master the job on your own. Asking for help is better than botching a job. If you are on overload, create a schedule. Set aside an hour each day to do the busy work, such as filing or writing reports. This way, these projects won't accumulate.

When you are away from work, schedule time to relax and reconnect with friends and family. Go to a museum or take in a movie. Do something that makes you happy. The body/mind connection is quite real. Aim for a balanced lifestyle at work and at home.
