The “angel of God spoke to me” was the ancient Hebrews' way of saying that they had received divine inspiration or certitude that God was speaking to them. The expression appears throughout the Old Testament, especially in the sayings of the prophets. From among them, several women exhibited an extraordinary gift of prophecy, including Deborah, Huldah, Isaiah's wife, the Necromancer of Endor, Jezebel, and the slave-girl soothsayer of Philippi.
