The Book of Ruth

The Book of ruth, some feminist scholars of biblical studies assert, shows female ingenuity, strength, commitment, and love. Some sources even suggest that a woman may have written the Book of ruth. The point of the story is a little ambiguous. Was it the story of the linkage or lineage to King David, or a story celebrating ethnic diversity and accepting it into ancient Hebrew culture, or a means to justify the levirate marriage practice? The Book of ruth certainly invites reflection on all of the above, but more importantly, the story shows how two women, under extremely adverse conditions, served as extraordinary examples of pious and virtuous womanhood.
