“New World” was at one time a less than flattering term for the upstart winemakers outside of Europe. Since then, many of the philosophical borders between the Old World and the New World have eroded as Old World countries adapt to technological innovation and New World winemakers increasingly adopt traditional techniques. In winemaking, though, the effect of the land on the final product is paramount, and geography will always separate the two worlds.
