A power of attorney is a legal document that gives someone else, referred to as the holder of the power of attorney, the right to do something for you. Powers of attorney are used to give the holder the power to make legal or financial decisions for you and to sign the necessary papers to accomplish the task. In addition, a medical power of attorney gives a designated person the right to make decisions about your health care.
