Pentagram
The pentagram is a five-pointed star with a circle around it. Many Wiccans and witches wear this symbol as a protection amulet. You might choose to display one on the door to your home or on your altar. In circle-casting, witches often trace pentagrams in the air at the four directions to insure safety. Sometimes they also make this mark on their foreheads with essential oils or decorate their clothing with pentagrams.
Pentagrams can be added to any protection spell. If you're doing a candle spell, carve a pentagram into the candle's wax. If you're making an amulet, embroider a pentagram on a pouch or draw one on a piece of paper and slip it inside a mojo bag.
The pentagram represents the earth element and is linked with the feminine force. Consequently, you might like to have a pentagram made of silver, a feminine metal ruled by the moon, or copper, which is ruled by Venus. Perhaps you'd like to decorate your pentagram with crystals or gemstones that relate to the element of earth (see Chapter 10 for ideas). As part of the charging process, some witches anoint their pentagrams with essential oil of mint, pine, patchouli, amber, or basil.
