Anyone who has been in a church, temple, mosque, or shrine understands the meaning of sacred space. When you enter sacred space, you leave behind your everyday thoughts and concerns, immersing yourself in a place where Spirit abides. Sacredness, though, is more a matter of attitude and behavior than trappings. No structure, furnishings, or props are required. A grove of trees, a waterfall, or a spot in your own backyard can be a sacred space. The Buddha said, “Wherever you live is your temple if you treat it like one.”
