Susan and Nick were sitting together at their favorite spot on campus one day in between classes, talking about where they wanted to get married.

“It was so peaceful there. The alumni association gave the college money to make this big reflecting pool, and flowers were blooming and a little family of ducks was out on the water. We just looked at each other and thought, how perfect! We should get married here! After all, college is where we met, dated, shared so many special memories. What could be better?”

They investigated and found out that other students and alumni had had the same idea. “But we managed to get the date we wanted, and as soon-to-be graduates, we were entitled to the alumni rate. It was a huge savings from other ceremony sites.”

Tradition, Tradition

Kylie and Sean have decided on a traditional church wedding. “There was some initial family discussion about which church. Our family is Methodist, Sean's is Presbyterian. In the end, maybe because my parents were paying, Sean's family told us we should get married in my family's church.”

Because they wanted to show their appreciation for a peaceful resolution to what they had feared would be a tense situation, Kylie and Sean decided to look for a reception site that would honor Sean's parents.

Lynn and John didn't find themselves agreeing quickly on their wedding site. “We knew we wanted to have a big party, and it didn't seem quite right to have that in a church reception hall. Then, too, we aren't members of a church, so we didn't think we wanted to ask if we could get married in one and never go back.”

A discussion with her wedding planner resulted in a perfect location for the couple, according to Lynn. “I liked the idea of a country club and John liked a location with water. The planner told us about a marina country club and made arrangements for us to visit it. We decided it was perfect.” Lynn's location is pricey, but with alteration such a setting can be affordable for couples on a modest or moderate budget.
