Here are 10 tips to keep in mind as you plan your honeymoon.

1. Time your honeymoon for a site's best rates. Call a hotel directly, because a hotel chain's toll-free operator might not know about special deals relevant to the hotel you're interested in. Also visit HotelCoupons.com, HotelDiscount.com, or another Web site that offers similar services to get information about special deals.

2. Leave for the honeymoon during your air carrier's lowest rate period (usually midweek).

3. Don't eat all your meals in restaurants during your honeymoon. Cook some of them if you have a kitchenette, and make picnic breakfasts and lunches to take to the park or the beach.

4. The farther away the location, the more expensive. Staying within a few hundred miles of home will save you on airfare or gas.

5. Consider a package deal. Make sure the deal adds up to significant savings over purchasing all of the items à la carte.

6. Use one credit card to charge purchases for your wedding and accrue frequent-flier miles for your honeymoon airfare.
