Final Assessment for Countdown Training
It's time for your last round of evaluations before your wedding. Once again, return to Chapter 1 and revisit the assessments. Compare the difference between today and your first day of the program. Give yourself a big pat on the back for all your hard work. Wellness doesn't simply happen to people. You develop it every day by choosing health at every opportunity. Your progress is the direct result of your commitment. Savor this moment and plan a special reward for yourself — a pampering massage, spa day, or whatever encourages you to relax and feel good. You deserve it!
As you look at your assessment results, consider what you want to achieve in these last few weeks. It's likely that your schedule is going to become tighter and tighter, particularly as all the social events — luncheons, parties, receptions — start kicking into gear. Your workout time is a special luxury that you need to protect for yourself as much as possible. At the same time, you need to be realistic.
Your life is not going to be routine during this final countdown. Given the upcoming demands on your time, take a moment to brainstorm what's going to be possible for you in terms of training. Can you keep up with at least a daily walk? Can you continue to squeeze in daily stretching and toning? Can you fit in a structured workout at least two to three days a week? Now, you need to be ultraefficient with your training.
Studies show that minimal amounts of equally intense training can deter the loss of endurance and strength when insufficient time is available for longer workouts for up to four months. A minimum of two muscle conditioning sessions per week is enough to keep your toning gains.
To give you the greatest boost for your investment, the workouts in this last section focus on delivering the most results in the least amount of time. This program works because you're building on the foundation that you've already established and targeting your shape-up goals. Customize how you put together the programs set forth below depending on whether you want to focus on losing more weight or on creating more muscle tone or definition. If you've achieved the shape that you want, emphasize pure maintenance.
