Transportation Conundrums

As a courteous host, providing travel and hotel information to the guests will make their journey to your wedding a smooth and enjoyable one. An itinerary of the wedding activities lets the guests know what to expect, and a small hospitality package will provide a warm welcome after a long trip.

Do I need to pay for the guests' travel arrangements? You are not required to pay for any portion of the guests' travel arrangements. As an acceptance of your invitation, they assume the responsibility of paying their own way to your wedding. Of course, if your financial situation can accommodate such arrangements, it is perfectly okay to do so.

Fact

Group airfare discounts will provide some welcome economic relief for guests that will be flying in to attend your wedding. Generally, the airlines ask that a minimum number of fares be purchased from them in exchange for a discount. Check out the airline's website or call them directly to find out their requirements. Car rental agencies may also offer special group discounts for weddings.

My wedding location is a little off the beaten path. Should I provide transportation to and from the ceremony and reception? Providing transportation is not necessary (and is an additional expense), but guests would surely appreciate the hospitality of shuttle buses or luxury coaches to take them to the wedding festivities. You should designate times and meeting locations at the guests' hotels and provide the guests with a timeline for arrivals and departures. Such arrangements ensure your guests get to the ceremony and reception on time, and no one will have to worry about driving if they have a little champagne.
