Planning the Event

After you have taken into account the dos and don'ts for a second wedding and considered what feels right for your “old family” and your “new family,” you can begin the process of planning the wedding. This wedding can pretty much be whatever you want it to be — big and fancy, cozy and intimate, or totally casual. As an encore bride, you have the option to create a beautiful and meaningful ceremony to celebrate your marriage.

Attire

Is it inappropriate for me to wear a white gown? Lucky for you, pretty much anything goes, and whatever you feel suits you best is what you should select and wear for your wedding. Of course, the gown should match the formality of the wedding and be appropriate for your age and for the location.

Can I wear a veil and blusher? While the etiquette is loose for the gown, the issue of the veil is different. A veil that does not cover the face, if it fits with the formality of the wedding, would be fine. You should forego the blusher, as it is a tradition reserved for first-time brides.

The Ceremony

Who should give me away? Who gives you away is completely your decision. It could be your father, but it could also be your children. An eldest son can take on this role, but you can also enter with your groom or simply walk down the aisle alone.

Alert

Be sure to check with your local county or state about a waiting period after your divorce is legal. It would surely be sad to plan a wedding that cannot officially take place because your county has a waiting period and it is too soon to remarry.

How can we include our children in the ceremony? There are many ways to include children and celebrate your union. They can be a part of a unity candle ceremony or a sand ceremony. They can recite a poem or vows written for them. They can also act as attendants.
