Quick Sewing Stitches
Here's a handy reference for when you need to know how to make the most simple stitches.
Backstitch
1 Make a short stitch.
2 Insert the needle at the beginning of the stitch and bring it out a stitch ahead. The result should resemble machine-stitching; it should look neat.
Running Stitch
This is the simplest of all stitches.
1 First, pull the needle up through the fabric.
2 Push the needle down through the fabric, spacing the entry and departure point to the desired length.
Slip Stitch
1 Pick up a thread or two of fabric.
2 Run the needle inside the folded edge about W and pick up a thread or two.
Basting
This means to use a large running stitch, about 1” long.
