Decisions! Decisions!

Some of the most sought-after destinations may be booked up to a year in advance, so begin your planning early and don't get locked into what you think a honeymoon has to be. A honeymoon can be anything you want from backpacking across Europe to lounging on a beach in the Caribbean to camping in the mountains.

Where to Go

Working with a qualified and knowledgeable travel agent is the key to honeymoon success. Just as you were diligent with your wedding professionals, use these same practices when finding a travel agent. He or she can steer you toward the right destinations for your interests and offer up-to-the-minute advice about traveling and vacationing.

Before you book your honeymoon, research the destination and surrounding areas carefully. Consider travel advisories, political situations, and even what the weather conditions have been over the last year or so. Then check into travel documentation or immunizations you may need. Once you decide, purchase a local guidebook to start planning the trip and making notes on points of interest.

If you will be flying, make travel arrangements for your honeymoon under your maiden name. You will not have a passport or driver's license in your married name yet, and you must be able to present the proper documentation to travel.

Saver's Fares

While perusing through your honeymoon options, you might find that your budget has as much of an impact on your final destination as your dreams. Great deals are available — provided you do a little research. If you are trying to save money or are on a tight budget, look for special air/hotel package deals, low-price airfares, and consider alternative accommodations, such as house/apartment swaps, hostels, or a bed-and-breakfast instead of a luxury hotel.

Here is a list of places to consult for potentially inexpensive travel arrangements.
