Some of the most ancient icons of Mary show her with her arms raised in prayer. According to the book of Acts, Mary prayed with the disciples while waiting for the Holy Spirit to come (Acts 1:14–2:1). These images express Mary's role as intercessor. This chapter will explore ways in which Christians have prayed with Mary through the centuries, as well as offering some practical suggestions for making space for Mary within our own homes.
