Over the past several hundred years, apparitions of the Virgin Mary have continued to occur, and, according to the late scholar Jaroslav Pelikan, this phenomenon seems to be increasing. The following chapter will explore a wide variety of modern sightings that have spanned the globe and addressed a variety of contemporary concerns: Communism, the rift between the Eastern and Western Churches, and conflicts between believers and secular governments.
