Apparitions of the Virgin Mary date back to the first century. In the earliest apparitions, Mary often came to offer comfort and consolation. In some cases, she requested that churches be built to commemorate the spot where she appeared. Remarkably, from some of these earliest apparitions, tangible reminders still remain. This chapter will explore a selection of the earliest apparitions.
