Beer-Battered Tofu Fillet

Who needs eggs for a tangy and light batter, when beer works just as well? Add some fries for a British pub-style “fish ‘n chips” meal.

INGREDIENTS | SERVES 8

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 blocks extra-firm tofu, chopped into chunks
  • 1 12-ounce bottle of beer
  • 1⅓ cups flour
  • Oil for frying
  1. Combine the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle the mixture over the tofu, gently pressing to stick.

  2. Pour the beer into a large bowl and add flour, stirring to combine.

  3. Dip the tofu in the beer batter, then fry in plenty of oil on both sides until crispy.
