Life After the Presidency
After Richard Nixon resigned, he retired to San Clemente, California. One month later, he was pardoned by his successor, President Gerald Ford. He worked on writing a number of books about his experiences and about foreign policy while traveling extensively. In 1985, he mediated a dispute between major league baseball and the umpire association. He provided advice about foreign affairs to presidents of both parties. Nixon died on April 22, 1994, after suffering a stroke four days earlier.
