The Second Coming

Islam teaches that Jesus will return to earth before the Day of Judgment. While the Second Coming is not specifically mentioned in the Qur'an, it does say that Jesus is a “sign” for the coming of the Hour (Qur'an 43:61). This is interpreted to mean that Jesus will come back at the end of times.

More detailed information about Jesus' return to earth is given in the oral traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, the Sunnah. On one occasion, Muhammad came upon a group of people who were discussing the Day of Judgment. He told them that it would not come until the people see ten signs. Among them, he mentioned, “the descent of Jesus, the son of Mary.” Muhammad also told his followers that Jesus would descend among the people as a just judge close to the end of time. He will follow the laws of Islam, and all Jewish and Christian people will believe in him before his death: “And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Judgment he will be a witness against them” (Qur'an 4:159).
