The city of Bologna is the capital of Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, which sweeps across the top of the boot from east to west, just south of Milan and Venice. Like the rest of Italy's major cities, Bologna dates back centuries and offers countless historic churches and sights for touring. Medieval, Baroque, and Renaissance architecture abounds, along with moving modern marvels including Maseratis and Lamborghinis, both of which are built nearby. Students at the University of Bologna help keep the city young. If you're curious, this is also the birthplace of delicious Bolognese sauce.
