You could spend a lifetime traveling in Italy and still not enjoy all of the history and culture it offers. But Italy is just one nation among many in the European Union, all of which is interconnected by a strong transportation network that makes tourism easy. When you think about it, Italy is about the same size in square miles as the state of Arizona. It would be odd for an Italian traveler to go all the way to the United States and visit only Arizona. By the same token, you might want to incorporate other parts of the European Union into your Italy-based vacation.
