Restaurants and Pubs
Like many of the coastal counties, travelers can expect to find superior seafood, especially at farther-removed peninsulas, around Lough Derg, and towns such as Killaloe, and Scarriff. The main thoroughfares in Ennis and Limerick City have assorted international dishes to offer. (In the restaurant listings that follow, = around 25 euros per person.)
Kasturi
Carmody St., Ennis, Co. Clare 065 684 8060
The Indian cuisine at Kasturi will surely fill the void for hot and spicy. With all the best choices, from chicken to vegetarian, this restaurant fills up quickly on the weekends. Lunch specials are a great way to save some money, but the atmosphere really comes to life at night.
The Roadside Tavern
Kincora Rd., Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare 065 707 4084
After a day exploring the seaside sweeps near the Cliffs of Moher and the town of Doolin, kick back at the Roadside Tavern. Run by the Curtin family and established in 1865, live music and all the pints you can handle are on tap seven nights a week. Try the special Irish stew made with Burren beef.
The Cherry Tree Restaurant
Lakeside, Ballina, Killaloe, Co. Clare 061 375 688
Located in Killaloe, just off the southern tip of where the Lough Derg becomes the River Shannon, the Cherry Tree Restaurant is an award-winning eatery with a lakeside vista. Specialties include everything from pan-fried fish to roasted duck.
The Green Onion Restaurant
Old Town Hall, Rutland St., Co. Limerick 061 400 710
Great price. Great atmosphere. Great selection. This characterizes what the Green Onion has been maintaining with lively flair for years. Located just across from the Hunt Museum, the baked goat cheese specials are a must.
The Wild Geese
Rose Cottage, Adare, Co. Limerick 061 396 451
At first glance, it is a little on the pricey side. But, once you have tasted the succulent baked salmon or Irish sirloin, cost will be the furthest thought on your mind. The early-bird menu is the best deal and dessert is not complete without trying one of the dessert wines on hand.
