According to Jewish tradition, the idea of a yeshiva, a house of study, reaches back before the Torah was given to Moshe. The modern-day yeshiva, however, is a more recent innovation, dating back “merely” 200 years. Today yeshivos exist around the world, and they have revolutionized organized Torah learning. Throughout the Yeshiva system, the critical study of Torah is augmented by the study of Mussar, Jewish ethical development.
