According to Jewish tradition, the Oral Torah is as much a part of Torah as the Written one. It, too, was given to Moshe on Mt. Sinai, and has been studied, shared, and transmitted from generation to generation for thousands of years. It enables a much deeper and more profound understanding of the Written Torah—and beyond that, most of our understanding of the Torah belief system, holidays, and daily observance comes from outside the written text.
