The Sacrifice of the Warrior
The Toltec path winds from its beginning, where the parasite (future warrior) is asleep in the dream of the planet, to its realization, when the eagle warrior launches her glorious flight into freedom. You have read about the challenges along the way, and the powerful tools of personal transformation offered in the Toltec tradition.
For any human considering walking this path, there are some cautions that should be addressed. There is a place on the journey, different for each person, that marks the point of no return — she can no longer turn back, go to sleep again, and resume her old life. The awakening that has been put in motion, aided and abetted by spirit, will stay in motion.
The Parasite Still Has Tricks
The parasite is happy to let the new warrior enjoy the imagined journey, and the fantasy life of freedom. As indicated in earlier chapters, the parasite has also dedicated all of its resources and power to prevent the imagined freedom from actually occurring. The warrior who battles the parasite for control of the human mind will often think she is winning, when she is actually still on the parasite's short leash. Vigorous vigilance is required by the warrior to keep from going in circles at the end of the leash.
It is also valuable, of course, to have the support and mirror of a teacher or Master who has walked the path and achieved personal freedom. The external warrior is an important resource, especially in the early stages of the journey. The parasites, both inner and outer, are formidable obstacles to personal freedom for the beginner.
The Warrior Becomes a Ghost
There is a pausing point on this journey when the new warrior realizes she is passing through a portal that leads her beyond the dream of the planet. She knows she is sacrificing her connection to everything that she knows and brings her comfort. By the time she reaches this point on her journey, the warrior is well aware of what she is about to do when she passes through the portal.
There is no way the warrior can know the full extent of her sacrifice until she makes it. She steps through the portal, leaves the dream of the planet … and becomes a ghost. She walks in the same physical world, but now separate from it. It is a moment she has been working toward, looking forward to, and fearing. She is free to live her life to the fullest degree possible, but the warrior also knows she now lives in a different world from almost every other human. She dreams differently, and her life will never be the same. This is the sacrifice the eagle warrior makes, in order to receive her gift: the dream of heaven on earth.
Each step on the Toltec path prepares the student for the next step. There are few surprises and no mistakes. There are, however, moments when the parasite is agitated about dangers ahead, and resists progress. The warrior recognizes these feelings, and accepts them as part of her journey.
