Forbidden Toys

Some seemingly harmless objects that toddlers love are too dangerous to allow. Don't try to teach them that these are no-no's; to do so would be to risk an accident. Instead, keep the following items carefully out of reach:

  • Any toy marked “not suitable for children under age three”

  • Glitter, which has edges sharp enough to damage eyes when they're rubbed with glitter-speckled hands

  • Plastic wrap and bags

  • Small toys and objects that could be swallowed, such as buttons, marbles, Lego's, and deflated balloons

  • String, yarn, cords, and long thin objects such as necklaces and bracelets, which can choke or strangle children

  • Styrofoam products (cups, plates, bowls, and packing materials) that could be eaten
