When buying toys, be sure to check the targeted ages noted on the box. That should help ensure they are developmentally appropriate and safe. Also consider whether the toy needs batteries. If so, are they included? So many toys require them that investing in a battery charger can save not only money but also the headache of making frequent runs to the store.

To increase the chances that your toddler will be more interested in the toy you buy than in the box it came in, select those that have won Parents' Choice Awards. Unfortunately, there aren't many award-winners listed for toddlers at the Parents' Choice Web site,
