A typical Tarot deck consists of 78 cards. Of these, the first 22 are identified as the Major Arcana. The 56 remaining cards are called the Minor Arcana, presumably because they contain information that is of a less important or mystical nature. Because the Tarot can be viewed and understood as a body of wisdom and guidance, it is sometimes thought of as a book — or more accurately, as two books — of knowledge.
