Exactly what will you need in order to transform your so-so surroundings into a pleasure paradise? That can vary widely depending on your existing space, the mood you are aiming for, and your available resources. Your sacred-space shopping list can be as basic or as complicated as you wish. At the very least, you will need the bare essentials: a few soft light bulbs, some candles, something that smells good, and an assortment of “sexy” accessories.
Evaluating Your Space
When preparing to establish a sacred space, it is important to keep in mind that you do not necessarily need to designate an entire room for this purpose. (While that would be great, for many people it is simply not feasible or practical.) You can transform any room — or part of a room — into a sacred space at any time, with a little advance planning or some fast touchups. Once you have chosen the specific room or area that you will designate as your sacred space, you need to form a plan of attack and figure out how you will transform it into your Tantric temple of love. First, zero in on any major “no-nos” — things that are sure to zap the romance right out of the room. This would include a crib or your kids' toys. Yes, you enjoy being parents, but during these interludes you will want to take a break from being Mommy and Daddy. Other things that should be totally off-limits: computers, cell phones, and anything remotely connected to work.
This should go without saying, but the very first step in preparing your sacred space is a very thorough cleaning. Get rid of all clutter. Remember, you may be trying out some adventurous positions, so you never know where you might end up sitting, laying, etc.
After you have eliminated the trouble spots, formulate your plan of action. Take your time and be creative. Is your partner turned on by burlesque shows? See if you can give your space that burlesque feeling. If your partner is more of the “wild outdoors” type, create your own little jungle paradise — complete with a few African-inspired accessories — where you can live out your “Tarzan and Jane” fantasies. For the true Tantric feel, you might want to look for a few items with an Indian influence. You will be amazed at how even a few simple touches can give the room a whole new feel — and, as a result, give you a whole new feel when you are in it.
