If You Feed Birds, They'll Forget How to Find Food for Themselves
Scattering seeds on the ground or placing a bird feeder in the backyard is a thoughtful gesture, but it doesn’;t replace birds’ normal foraging. Think of it as cheese and crackers at a supper party. The birds just consider the feeder as another source of food, but that doesn’;t keep them from pursuing their normal activity. Further, a bird feeder in the snow does not prevent migrating birds from their seasonal schlep. Nature provides in many more ways than humans—even bird watchers—can imagine.
