Rising to the Occasion

Variety, the show business trade paper, supposedly reported this bizarre death sometime in the mid-1980s, but no search of their archives reveals its appearance. It took place in Las Vegas, a town whose showmanship is second to none, in a casino lounge that features a piano that rises out of the floor on an elevator platform.

According to the legend, a man and woman somehow got into the closed theater and began making out on top of the piano. One thing led to another, and one of them accidentally clicked the UP button on the end of the keyboard with a toe, activating the elevator. Since they were too distracted to notice, the piano kept rising to the ceiling, crushing the man on top of the woman on top of the piano. The man suffocated in that position, and the horrified woman was unable to escape from underneath him, where she lay naked, hysterical, and pinned in place until the cleaning crew discovered them in the morning. (Unconfirmed.)
