Once your stepchildren are adults, or if you start off with adult stepchildren, you may find that you are less of an issue for them since you do not affect their daily living the way you would if they were younger. As adults, your stepchildren may have different concerns about you. They may think that you are involved in a relationship with their parent primarily because you are interested in their parent's money. They also may worry that you might plan on having more children. Either of these scenarios might feel threatening to them. Younger stepchildren might not have such concerns unless the situation is in front of them, whereas adult stepchildren may begin thinking about these things almost as soon as you begin dating their parent.
