Common Idioms
Idioms are words and phrases used in such a way that you can't decipher the whole by identifying the parts. They aren't something you can string together word-byword from a dictionary. For example, imagine you were learning to speak English and you came across the phrase “The cat got her tongue.” This idiom certainly can't be translated word for word. Instead, you would be taught what the idiom means as a whole.
