You may have heard about la vida loca, the “crazy life,” in a fun and harmless context. But the word loco/a, crazy, has intense negative connotations when in comes to dealing with mental health. Dealing with patients with mental health issues may be particularly challenging with Spanish-speaking patients who, because of cultural beliefs and values, may not acknowledge mental illness the same way you do.
