At Home

You probably already know many of the dog-friendly places where you can take your pooch in your own city or town. When you're ready to venture beyond the local park, it's always a good idea to call an establishment you plan to visit ahead of time to check their current policy.

Start by dining al fresco with your dog. Make sure Bubba does not bother other diners by bringing along some yummy treats of his own. Of course, keep him leashed at all times, and use the opportunity to put training commands such as “Down” and “Stay” into practice. If you are turned away, try not to take it personally. It's best to respond graciously, both for your own sake and for other dog owners like you who are eager to show people that well-mannered dogs should be welcomed wherever their owners go.
