When you worry about your child's vision, you may be concerned with near- and farsightedness. These problems with getting visual information into the brain are significant, but more to the point are the problems that occur when the nervous system has the information but mismanages it. Your child may overreact to the sight of something that seems nonthreatening to you; have trouble picking out important details from visual information; or be unable to place what he sees in the proper context without the help of information from other senses.
