It's one of the key contradictions of sensory integration disorder that kids can be too sensitive, not sensitive enough, or both at once. That's the kind of thing that raises eyebrows when you tell someone about this new diagnosis, and that makes it sound like such a catch-all it can't possibly be legitimate. But when the basic apparatus for processing sensation is out of whack, it's not surprising that problems occur all along a spectrum.
