As with any disability, getting a diagnosis can be the first step to getting proper treatment. Unlike most disabilities, you may not hear about this one from a doctor first. A teacher, social worker, or therapist might mention it, or you may read a magazine article or a book and see your child in it. Because sensory integration disorder hasn't been fully accepted by many in the medical profession as a legitimate diagnosis, it's possible that you'll have to do your own investigating and then give your pediatrician a push.
