Create Your Own Recorded Sessions

Creating your own home-recorded sessions is a very simple process, and there are many choices available to you. You may choose to record your session on a cassette deck, which you can purchase at most department stores for very little money. Another option is to record a session on a digital recorder, which usually has a better recording quality than a tape recorder. If your computer has a line-in or microphone port, you can record directly to your computer over a microphone.

The advantage of recording your session directly to your computer is that you can then put your session on either a CD or MP3 player. You can then listen to your session as often as you like, take it with you wherever you go, and even put it online so others can listen to it.

Question?

Can I use my iPod to record or listen to sessions?

For the ultimate in record-and-play simplicity, you can use your iPod for recording and and then listening to your sessions. The iPods made after 2005 (except the Shuffle) have built-in recording capabilities, but you'll need to purchase an add-on mic. Three popular add-on mics are the Belkin TuneTalk Stereo, Griffin iTalk Pro, and the Xtreme Mac MicroMemo. If you want to use your iPod to just listen to sessions, the session must be saved as a WAV, MP3, AAC, or AIFF file before being transferred to your iPod.

Mix, Move, and Edit

Another advantage of recording your session on a computer is that you can use a music-mixing software program, which will allow you to add music or other types of sound effects that you might enjoy to your session. A mixer allows you to overlay various soundtracks that you have created on top of or beside each other. Once you have your voice recorded and downloaded to the mixer, you can then edit as much as you would like.

Many programs allow you to cut or erase outside distractions or mistakes you may have made. Some will allow you to speed up or slow down the speed of the session. You can also adjust the volume on separate tracks, so you can raise your voice or lower the volume of the music to suit your preference. These programs are very easy to use and extremely flexible.

By having your entire session recorded on one of these programs, you will have great flexibility in making future recordings. If you take the time to record each portion or segment of your session, such as the induction, the relaxation portion, and the awakening, on separate tracks, once you decide to make a track for a different session topic, all you will need to record is the actual script or suggestion and simply replace it with the track of the old script from the previous session. Simply insert your suggestions between the relaxation and the awakening portion and your session is finished. This will save you quite a bit of time in the long run.

Computer Programs

There are many programs available on the market today that will do this function for you. Before going down to your local electronics or software store, perform a simple search online to see what is available. You can download some of these recording programs, such as Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net), from the Internet for free. In the event that you are not able to find a suitable program, you can visit your local electronics store, where they will have many programs available and in most cases a knowledgeable staff that can help match you to the program that will do what you want.

Alert!

Before running out to purchase all kinds of expensive recording equipment, take a survey of what you may have available to you already. Many digital recorders have adapters that will connect directly to your computer, or you may have a microphone that might also do the job nicely. Try it first then shop if needed.

Some of the programs that are suitable to record in this manner are Audacity, Screenblast Acid, Nero, and Goldwave, just to name a few. Again, your best option is to research programs on your own once you know exactly what it is you would like to do.
