Creating Your Own Sessions

Once you understand the basics of self-hypnosis you may want to create your own sessions. Here is a format that you can use to easily build your own sessions from scratch. Also included are the instructions on how to create your own scripts.

Induction

The first step of your own hypnosis script is the induction. The induction is what you say to initially help yourself settle down and relax. Most people use what is known as a body scan. The body scan is simply naming each part or segment of your body, from head to toe or even from toe to head, relaxing each part as you mention it. If you desire, you can be creative while mentioning each part of the body by moving it slightly or whatever you would like as a way of helping you to focus more on that specific muscle group.

Deepener or Vehicle

After the induction or body scan comes what is known as a deepener or a vehicle. The deepener is used primarily for the nonanalytical subject as it is designed to help the subject to relax more and bring him to a deeper state. The vehicle is used for the analytical subject and is the tool designed to keep his mind busy while the suggestions are being read so as to bypass the rebellious conscious mind.

In creating a nonanalytical deepener, you have an unlimited variety of choices available. One deepener is to simply count down from a certain number, such as twenty, counting backward slowly all the way to the number one to allow you time to relax. You can involve more visual things within your counting, such as counting steps while walking down them. You can also count the floors on an elevator as you descend. If you do not wish to count, you can just create relaxing scenes such as lying on a hammock in the middle of a field of wildflowers or relaxing on a mountainside while watching the sunset. Anything that helps you relax will work just fine.

Alert!

When creating an analytical vehicle, do not make the task too difficult. Although the idea is to keep your mind busy, if the task is too difficult, such as complex math or other similar forms of mental multitasking, you may get frustrated and stop doing the task. If this happens, you may be even more resistant to the suggestions due to frustration.

The vehicle, also known as the analytical vehicle, is simply a technique designed to keep the subject's mind busy. The vehicle can be any simple task, from drawing numbers or letters in succession on a blackboard to lying on the ground while watching clouds form into descending numbers. It's similar to the example of trying to do your taxes and have a conversation at the same time. You must let go of the conversation to do a good job on your taxes.

Creating Your Own Suggestions/Script

There are many scripts in this book that you may use in your sessions. As you become comfortable with using them you will eventually begin to create your own suggestions targeting more precise issues.

Fact

Keep in mind that in hypnosis you are speaking to the subconscious mind, which is similar to a four-year-old child. Creating a script is as simple as deciding what you would tell a four-year-old child to do in order to change.

A script can be as long or as short as you like, but it should be long enough to get the point across. You can write a script for any area that you can improve in. Before writing a script, take the time to break down your topic into as many separate aspects or areas that you can in order to cover it properly.

Topic

Idea

Aspect #1

Aspect #2

Aspect #3

Aspect #4

Aspect #5

Once you fill in the various aspects of the topic, place them in the chronological order that seems to make the most sense.

Topic Order

#1

#2

#3

#4

#5

Once you have done this, take each aspect and turn it into a paragraph. Following are some additional items to help your script:

  • When writing your script, try to include as many of the five senses as possible: sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste.

  • Always use positive, active wording (for example, excited, energized, anxious, happily, and so on).

  • Make all suggestions believable.

  • Include confidence, self-esteem, and relaxation statements.

  • Use pictures and imaginative phrases. The subconscious mind reacts better to pictures rather than just words. Use your imagination as much as possible, seeing the end result as having already been attained rather than the progression of reaching it.

  • Include emotions. Whatever emotions or feelings can be associated with the subject will help the script be more effective.

Now put it all together and write your script.

Awakening

The awakening is a simple procedure where you simply count forward three to five numbers and then open your eyes. The reason for a proper awakening is so you can emerge from hypnosis gradually in a relaxed state. It is not vital to have an awakening as you may just open your eyes on your own; however, inserting an awakening gives a session a formal ending.
