Embracing the Lessons
As you look back and begin to examine your life more closely, hopefully, you have decided that it is time to break up with the past and move on. Consider the following tips when embarking on this journey:
Face every day as a new beginning.
Draw on past experiences, but face every challenge as if it is brand new.
Consciously think about your language and the terms you use.
Plan ahead instead of looking back.
Be aware of today; live in the “now.”
Make a list of the things you truly, honestly, want from “now.”
Remain open to change and transformation.
Be willing to forgive others and yourself.
Clearing up the past can be one of the most important gifts that you give yourself in your quest for healthy self-esteem. The past, and all of the mistakes that go with it, are wonderful teachers. They are invaluable as you live in the moment and plan your future. But you can't live there, you can't go back, and you can't run. The best you can do is to atone your mistakes, learn from them, enjoy your successes, and realize that every second that passes becomes you past.
