Activity: What If?

Directions: Think back on your past. Think about your career, your friends, your family, and even distant acquaintances. What do you most regret having done to a person in a time when you had a lapse in integrity? Did you lie to them? Did you cheat them out of something? Did you betray them? In the spaces following, answer the following questions.

Who is the person who suffered during your integrity lapse?

What was their relationship to you at the time?

What did you do to them?

Why did you do it?

What justifications did you give yourself for having done it?

Looking back, what could you have done differently?

Activity: What If?

What would you do differently today if the situation happened again?

How did this action affect your relationship with this person?

How did this action affect your personal self-esteem?

Get out a nice piece of stationery and write this person a confessional letter. Tell them what you did, why you did it, how you've suffered because of it, and then apologize to them for having caused them pain during a lapse of integrity on your part. You don't have to mail it. Only you can make the decision of how important this confessional is to your self-esteem and your ability to heal the past.
