Giving to Yourself
Finally, you must not forget to give to yourself. If you are not nurturing your own needs, desires, and passions, you will not be able to do so for others.
Giving to yourself means that you identify your basic needs for a quality life. Is it that you need good friends around you? Do you need your family? Do you need quiet time for reflection and contemplation? Do you need a good book, a glass of wine, and some great music?
Or, do you need to be working and giving and helping others? You can have it all. But you must develop a plan for having it all. Perhaps you will decide to volunteer one week and spend time on yourself the next week. While volunteering and altruistic deeds are about others, the decisions and the passion must be about you.
Good luck on finding and sharing the passion of your heart.
“Giving to the world” sounds so monumental that the mere words can overwhelm you. But, hopefully, you understand now that giving to the world can be accomplished through giving to one person.
Service to humanity begins by stopping to find out who needs help, and helping those you can. You don't have to save the rain forest; you don't have to feed the entire homeless population. You don't have to give your life's savings. Service to humanity begins in your heart and ends in the heart of another person.
