Activity: What Can I Do Today?

Directions: Following, you will find a series of categories that you will need to evaluate to help you decide what talents you have and where best those talents might be used to help other people. Write down the things that you can do in each of these situations.

Some of the categories are abstract and intangible, while other categories are very concrete and tangible. Some of the categories require physical things like time and resources, while other categories require nothing but you! Take your time. This exercise can change the way you look at giving to humanity.

WHAT CAN I DO THIS WEEK …

To help someone smile

To help someone remember better times

To help someone laugh heartily

To help restore someone's confidence

To help someone believe in friendship again

To help invigorate a child's imagination

To help someone believe in love again

To help someone who is struggling with a health issue

To help someone who is lonely

To help an organization that assists others

To help someone spiritually

To help turn around the life of a troubled teenager

To help restore a damaged relationship

To help someone come to terms with a tragedy

To help the environment

To help my neighborhood

To help in the political arena

To help someone cope with major stress in his or her life

To help someone find her or his purpose in life

To help someone who is struggling financially

To help a library

To help a public school

To help a complete stranger

To help my best friend

Astonishingly, if you did just one of these things each week, this one exercise would allow you to give of yourself for six months. That's right, half a year's worth of service in this one activity! It is that simple. Enjoy the ride.
